New Growth Family Centre Inc.
Is an ongoing project that is open throughout the year. The After School Support part is utilized primarily during the school year. The summer is an equally important time for interaction as many kids are at home unsupervised. This is yet another concerning factor in the development of our programs.
Who Benefits From NGFC Inc. Programs?
The programs offered by NGFC Inc. are targeted primarily at rural families in Wellington North. Many of these families include low-income and single-parent homes, usually single mothers. These types of homes require the early intervention and support systems that we offer. Children from these families will benefit from interaction and involvement with the types of programs offered (education, sports, arts) as a healthy alternative to the “nothing to do syndrome” that is too common in our area. The educational programs include specialized tutoring for children, youth and adults with learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD and behavioral problems. Teen parents and detached youth are in desperate need of skill development and Mentorship Programs designed to rebuild self-worth and confidence thus allowing them to contribute to the greater good of the community. Our programs are proactive and focus on early prevention of substance abuse and reactive violence etc. There continues to be a growing concern for at-risk youth and their disturbing agenda. The truth is that these same high-energy youth can and should be recognized for their human potential and is encouraged to participate in the variety of interests offered through NGFC Inc.
The first hand benefits of the program will not only be realized by the young people described above but will undoubtedly go a long way in raising awareness in the hearts and minds of other members of the community. The inter-generational presence serves to build relationships between adults and youth and promote interaction and learning between generations. In the end, all parties will benefit together as our communities begin the change for good.
New Growth Family Centre Inc. programs are intended to augment the successful organized programs run by the local Recreation Department, Minor Hockey, Baseball, Soccer etc. Our programs are aimed to reach the high-risk youth who do not typically join organizations and who need specific encouragement and invitation to do so.
This setting provides opportunities to learn and use social skills appropriate to a variety of situations.

Therapeutic Day Program
This program is designed to support students between the ages of 6 -16 who are experiencing difficulty functioning in a traditional school setting. Learning problems may be due to:
· A medically diagnosed condition inhibits learning such as ADD/ADHD, FASD, Autism
Asperger’s Syndrome, ODD, RAD, OCD, Anxiety Disorder or other Learning Disabilities.
· Instability, negative experience or Trauma in early life.
· Disruptive behavior that interferes with his/her learning or the learning of others.
This is a therapeutic environment for learning which addresses emotional and social needs equally with school skills. We implement principles from The Stress Model (Post) and the Collaborative Problem Solving approach (Greene). The goal is to stabilize, assess and program for the child’s individual needs and equip him/her to rejoin peers as quickly as possible. We never lose sight of the fact that children should be attending, achieving and enjoying a full school program within their own community but that they may need a time in an alternative therapeutic learning environment to fill in some crucial gaps and deficits in development and learning. We provide a fine balance of assessment of the underlying needs, identification of strengths followed by setting realistic expectations for the child to be successful at home and at school.
Therapeutic Activity Program
This socially relevant environment provides the opportunity for students to practice and improve their individual level of social/academic skills with intensive support.
This program is designed to support students between the ages of 6 -16 who attend a Public or Separate School. We provide homework assistance and Brain Training Activities to strengthen Math and Language skills in a small group setting. We provide a supervised, supportive and structured environment that encourages positive
interaction and fun among peers, youth and adults.

**“Durable, effective intervention must focus both on the child (who has skills to learn and problems to solve) and on people in the child’s environment (who need to understand the true nature of the child’s difficulties and provide opportunities for the problem to be solved and the skills to be learned and practised).”

AN INTRODUCTION TO ADHD COACHING
Aletha McArthur Responses to frequently asked questions about adhd coaching covering who needs an ADHD coach, the benenfits of AD/HD coaching and how to become an ADHD coach. Q. What's a Coach? A. Well it's not an entirely new concept. The practice of coaching, mentoring, training individuals has been around for a very long time. More and more, the idea of coaching seems to be broadening into areas of personal achievement such as academic studies, business and workplaces, as well as life at home. Almost everyone has had an experience of giving coaching or being coached at one time or another. It is a natural approach.. The Oxford dictionary defines a COACH as: a teacher, mentor, instructor, advisor, personal trainer, someone who specializes in offering private tuition to individuals and groups. Q. What is an AD/HD Coach? A. An AD/HD Coach offers specialised coaching services that are specially designed for people with AD/HD Specific Learning Difficulties, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Aspergers, and related conditions. Q. Who needs an AD/HD Coach? Anyone any age will benefit from having the services of a coach. AD/HD coaching should be considered as one possible treatment option, when designing a multi-model treatment programme. Coaching should never be considered a replacement for medical or therapy treatments. It's greatest benefits are derived when combined with other treatments, addressing changes in routine and behaviour or when new skills need to be learned. The new skills transfer into daily life and other environments. We are amazed by the results we get in AD/HD coaching. It seems to fill a gap that exists in available services results, perhaps that is why coaching is such an effective tool and such a popular choice in professional circles for AD/HD client groups. The need for coaching is a very serious concern when you consider how often people describe feeling dropped and unsupported after receiving a diagnosis. Our AD/HD people have appropriate support in the moment from one consistent source to be successful to navigate new situations successfully, hence the coaching model. Clients, teachers, doctors, parents, all notice improvements in behaviour and performance in a very short period of time when there is a good relationship between coach and client. Parents say they especially appreciate having a coach because they are not nagging the child all the time.AD/HD coaches also help people with other conditions to improve their performance and learn new skills. Anyone who has suffered with a life-long learning disability knows the devastating effects a lack of proper services can cause Many AD/HD adults are struggling with chronic disorganization, procrastination, and general chaos and not reaching their full potential. . They will benefit immediately from having a coach to help them finish what they start and stay on track. Q. What are some of the benefits of AD/HD Coaching?
